Lwamata High School

The small town of Lwamata is located on the Kampala–Hoima Road, about 117 kilometres (73 miles) northwest of Kampala, the capital and largest city in Uganda. Lwamata was one of the areas where the National Resistance Army guerrillas initiated their early recruitment campaigns. A war memorial was elected in the town, to commemorate the lives that were lost. This small community has made a great recovery since the war, but the standard of educational institutions in the area has remained low. In 2014, this only high school in the community was almost closing and the children sent home when we purchased its assets and took over its management. The school, in addition to regular curriculum, has become a community center where we are training the community in farming, health and sanitation, and skills development.
